About Us

Chemistry for Life!

Since its inception in 1876, the American Chemical Society has provided resources to chemists young and old. We offer professional, educational and social opportunities for our members. Our club activities are geared towards chemistry and chemical engineering majors, but we welcome anyone with an interest in chemistry.

The goals of UIUC ACS are as follows:
1. Bring together undergraduate scientists
2. Foster a love of chemistry
3. Provide a forum for networking with peers and professors
4. Establish a community of mentoring
5. Facilitate early career development

What We Do

Chapter Meetings

The school year is kicked off with an informational meeting including a fun kahoot w/ prizes, with regular monthly chapter meetings to follow that are held to inform members of upcoming events.

Pizza Lectures

Each semester, there are several invited lectures from professors at UIUC and other universities.

Field Trips

The student chapter visits different local industries each year. This opportunity provides undergraduates with information and opportunities for the advancement of their careers after graduation, an inside look into possible careers, and potential networking opportunities with the company.

Social Events

In addition to professional development, the student chapter organizes several social events for members to meet people in their major and develop lasting friendships.

Outreach

ACS is actively involved with area schools and seeks to connect with and inspire a love of science in children of all ages! Demonstrations are accessible and present chemistry in an exciting and relatable manner. Previous demonstrations have included the Silver Mirror Flask, Dry Ice Colour Show, and Iodine Clock experiments.

Chemistry Cafés

The student chapter holds informal Saturday afternoon discussions about current topics in chemistry at the local coffee shop. Faculty are invited to lead the discussion and will send out papers ahead of time. Chemistry Cafés provide a relaxed, open venue for undergraduates to interact with faculty at the university and develop professionally.

Chapter Awards

Our ACS chapter is consistently involved with the broader American Chemical Society & field of chemistry as a whole.
